The Garden - A Special Place for the Memory Impaired

The Garden is a gracious residence that is dedicated to providing a secure, life-affirming environment for those with memory impairment. The Garden offers extensive amenities and services to support full, dignified lives for the residents while providing peace of mind for their family and friends. The entire staff is trained in the Best Friends Approach, a nationally prominent model of care specifically designed for people with memory impairment.

The Garden is a warm and inviting home. Residents reside in their own comfortable living space, which can be furnished with cherished belongings such as favorite furniture, artwork and personal effects. Equally important for residents is the abundance of common areas, which draw them into pleasurable interactions and activities with their neighbors. The tastefully appointed living room, dining room, den and lovely wandering garden are all secure areas where residents may move about freely. The Garden’s architecture and interior décor incorporate design elements which are soothing and helpful to those with memory issues.

The centerpiece of The Garden’s care is the Best Friends Approach, a philosophy of care founded on the values of friendship. Staff members learn each resident’s unique personal history so they may nurture and relate to each individual to the fullest extent. Both structured activities and casual gatherings reassure residents and offer opportunities to socialize, enjoy physical exercise, reminisce, use familiar skills and to express emotions. The Garden also has many activities such as exercise, singing, music programs crafts, word and card games, outings and discussions in the gathering areas. With only 17 residents, The Garden staff is able to provide extensive personalized attention to each resident.
